1) Another evening for sharing feelings--July 26, 2006 2) Jewish Federation Rally--July 26, 2006 3) Rally Supporting a Cease Fire and Humanitarian Aid in Lebanon and Gaza--July 30 1) We will present another evening for sharing thoughts and feelings on the current Middle East crisis at Rebecca’s on Wednesday, July 26th. The last one was very much appreciated by those who were able to attend so we are doing it again. You are welcome whether or not you were at the earlier one. 7:30-9 pm, 3306 SE 7th (corner of SE Franklin, one block south of
Powell)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ All text is from the sponsoring organizations and does not represent the position of Brit Tzedek. If you are interested in how we are responding to the crisis please see our website www.btvshalom.org 2) Wednesday, July 26th noon at Pioneer Courthouse Square Stand Against Terror. Stand with Israel. "...the Jewish community will be joined by civic and religious leaders and people of goodwill from throughout the area, to protest terrorism and stand in support of Israel...Hizbbullah must be defeated, Israel must be allowed to live in peace, and Lebanon must not be used as a terrorist playground by parties who have no respect for any human life." sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Portland From Brit Tzedek: No one on our executive committee will be available to attend. If you go it would be great if you could wear a Brit Tzedek tee shirt. We do not recommend making signs or engaging in other potentially controversial actions at this rally. We also suggest you meet up with other like-minded people at the statute of the man with the umbrella. We have a few Brit Tzedek tee shirts available with two different messages on the back, either "Call to Bring the Settlers Home"(white) or a more generic Pursue Peace (grey). There is one medium and one large in each style. They will be on Rebecca’s back porch at 3306 SE 7th if you want to pick one up to wear to the rally. See her address above. You can call her at 503-233-8060 to find out if any are left. 3) Sunday, July 30th 1pm at Pioneer Courthouse Square "A[n]...alliance of local human rights groups, faith organizations and individuals with family ties to the regions of Lebanon and Gaza now under attack by Israeli military forces is calling on the US government to demand an immediate cease fire, and to provide humanitarian aid to those suffering from the violence and blockades... "The organizations promoting the gathering include Americans United for Palestinian Human Rights (AUPHR), Palestinian Arab American Alliance (PAAA), Friends of Sabeel, Portland Peaceful Response Coalition (PPRC), the Islamic Center of Portland, Living Earth and Salem Palestine Solidarity Group for Peace & Justice. Brit Tzedek has been opposing the bill because we believe it fails to serve the long-term interests of either Israel or the United States by forfeiting the US role in bringing Israelis and Palestinians back to the negotiating table. By limiting the US's flexibility in proactively developing appropriate policies with respect to the recently constituted Palestinian Authority and by punitively limiting critical assistance to the Palestinian people, H.R. 4681 weakens moderate Palestinians and risks further strengthening extremists.
