Student Objectives
1. Identify students’ and tutors’ rights
and responsibilities.
2. Identify when and how to refer students
to other resources on campus.
3. Gain sensitivity into the way students
feel about asking for help.
4. Structure an effective tutor session
using techniques and tips presented.
5. Identify your own personal learning
style preference.
6. Identify a student’s learning style and
devise tactics to teach to that individual’s style.
7. Identify and improve your own study
skills.
8. Evaluate improved personal listening
and communication skills.
9. Define diversity and discuss variable
student goals, values, and cultural behaviors
and respond to these differences with
respect.
10. Identify questioning criteria and improve
personal questioning skills.
11. List problem solving skills.
12. Collectively, solve current problems
identified by tutors.
Attendance
You
are expected to attend required sessions and participate in activities and discussions.
If you must be absent, it is your responsibility to notify your center
coordinator and schedule a make-up session/activities. If you miss much of the
material, you may be requested to repeat that part of the course the following
term.
Expectations
1)
You will be expected to keep a journal
of your tutoring activities. Please include how you have used this tutorial
training content during tutoring and what kind of effect it has had on your
performance.
2)
You need to get at least three evaluations
filled out by students and turned in. To assure anonymity, please ask students
to give them to someone at the center front desk. These will be returned when we meet for
individual conferences at the end of the term.
3)
You will complete two self-evaluations: one
on your performance as a tutor and the other on your communication skills. You
will be expected to choose ways to improve your skill in the future. Please
bring these completed forms to our conference.
Grading
With
perfect attendance, 10 hours of training, 25 hours of tutor experience, 3
evaluations from tutees, and a self-evaluations and an administrative
evaluation, you can expect an international CRLA certificate.
