"America did not invent human rights. In a very real sense, it is the other way around. Human rights invented America."  James Earl Carter

We have lost credibility in Iraq and across the globe.  This Administration is incapable of leadership.
Extremists in the White House subscribe to a theory of virtually unlimited presidential authority, whereby the
commander-in-chief is entitled to ignore the Geneva Conventions in authorizing escalating levels of physical and psychological abuse.  These same theorists feel that the presidents "inherent" authority extends to ignoring
established law and bypassing checks or balances to wiretap American citizens without oversight, authorization, or reasonable suspicion.  These theories are counter to American law.
How long can we let these irresponsible administrators undermine our nation and disregard our laws?
When do we draw the line?  With thousands dead, billions wasted, our reputation ruined, and our economic house
in disorder...  perhaps the time is now.

Alberto Mora, the Navy's former general counsel, warned Pentagon officials two years before the Abu Ghraib prison scandal that circumventing international agreements on torture and treatment would invite abuse, according to the latest issue of New Yorker magazine.   Mora said Navy officers reported in 2002 that interrogators at the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, were using escalating abuse.  "I was appalled by the whole thing," Mora said. "It was clearly abusive and it was clearly contrary to everything we were ever taught about American values."
