Dear Daniel,

Enjoy the basketball season...  Looking forward to working with you this spring on your writing.
Here are a variety of supplemental resources you may find useful.

This is the best online resource on Articles,
Print and read

1.  I know that your writing assignments at school must be taking up a lot of your time.
So, please bring writing samples from any of your classes, or write a two page paper on a current
event or issue of your choice.  The format for this paper:  typed, double-spaced, with a title
and a page number on the second page.  If you have some difficulty finding something to write
about, here is a good place to begin

      http://www.writingresource.info/exercises.html

2.  Here here are some vocabulary words...Sunset Apollos

inherent     gesticulate     insatiable     figurative  reiterate   prudent

negligence   innocuous     lax    precipitate     equivocate

assiduous    blithe     belittle     coherent     vitriolic     apartheid     corollary

Please look them up in various dictionaries using this link

www.WritingResource.info/dictionary.html
Use each of these words in a sentence which is grammatically correct.  Make sure you understand their meaning, can pronounce them,
and are able to use them.  (more at bottom of page)

3.
Do the next pronoun exercise.  Avoid the use of the pronoun it.
The first thing to consider before using a pronoun is whether or not you really need one.
Then you must make certain that the pronoun is unambiguous and agrees in gender and
     number with its antecedent.

First print out the handout, then use it to keep track of which ones you miss.  We will review
any you miss so that you are clear about those specific circumstances.

These exercises were created with Hot Potatoes software. To download the handouts, you must have Adobe Reader on your computer.

Exercise 4 consecrate    indolent     paternal     supercilious

Exercise 3

1     Separate the introductory phrase from the rest of a sentence

After taking a hot shower, Ed fell asleep on the sofa.

2     Set apart words that interrupt the flow of the sentence

Robert, who was not properly dressed, said he would be at the door in a minute.

3     Separate two complete thoughts connected by a “joining” word (but, so, and)

I wanted to go outside, but it was raining cats and dogs!
Only use a comma with these joining words if they join two complete thoughts.

4     Separate a direct quotation from the rest of a sentence

He shouted, “Look out below!”

5     Be used between items in a series

The comma is used to list three or more items in a series.
The choices of color were red, green, yellow, and blue.
(The comma before the "and" is optional, but you must
either always use it, or never use it.)
You can Return to www.WritingResource.org/  or below you can find
all the rest of the rules about commas below!
