Writing with Purpose...   A Practical Guide to Writing

Spelling, sentence structure, and punctuation allow both native English speakers and ESL (English as Second Language)  students to communicate effectively. The communication structure might be informal notes, assigned paragraphs,  research papers, essays, or letters.   Professional writers extend this structure to create articles and books. These various formats begin with the simple paragraph, and the rhetoric they represent is often presented in  the classic five-paragraph essay form. The various structures of the five-paragraph essay can vary, but have some common ground.  The basic structure of writing is rhetoric, the art of argument or persuasion.  Effective essays communicate ideas well.  The varieties of essay types are virtually endless, and may include
cause and effect,
comparison and contrast,
narrative and others... what these types share
are a reliance upon classic
Rhetoric The Art of Argument or Persuasion.  When
students have mastered paragraphs and transitions, they can deliver an effective
conclusion!
