The Portland Alliance is the city's oldest alternative, progressive, union friendly newspaper. The Alliance reports on the issues ignored or distorted by the corporate-dominated mainstream press, asking the hard questions you won't hear on the evening news or read in your daily newspaper.

The Northwest Labor Press delivers news, views and information about organized labor, focusing on issues that impact union members in the Pacific Northwest.

There's no better source for timely and in-depth reports on union organizing campaigns, contract negotiations, strikes, and day-to-day news about the region's labor unions.

I’m very pleased to announce that preparations are under way for the first Cascade Campus Block Party, set for 3-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19. It’s going to be a Campus-wide open house, with a BBQ in Borthwick Mall, demonstrations and exhibits from our programs and departments, entertainment, and more. The Student Outreach Squad will be providing tours of the Campus for attendees throughout the evening. The idea is to bring the community here to see all the wonderful things we have to offer, and register for some classes while they’re at it.  To this end, I invite anyone who is interested to join in the planning and development process for what we hope will become an annual event. We want to have engaging and (hopefully) interactive demonstrations and exhibits in as many locations as possible. We need volunteers to help develop these demos and exhibits, and to staff them on the night of the Block Party.

Saturday September 20th, 8pm, Solidarity Salsa Party: Jobs with Justice's annual fundraiser with VOZ, the worker's rights education project. It's a chance to support two great organizations, learn how to dance Salsa and get some great items in the silent auction. If you are interested in buying tickets or your organization may be or if you have items to donate to the silent auction, please contact Eliana at (503)236-5573.  Third Annual VOZ and JwJ Solidarity Salsa Party Saturday, September 20th from 8pm to midnight, at the SEIU 503 Dance Hall, 6401 SE Foster Rd.

For the past two years VOZ the Workers Rights Organizing Project and Jobs with Justice have brought together members and supporters of our organizations for dancing, fun and fundraising.  This year we have even more reason to celebrate: VOZ recently opened Portland's first day labor center on June 16th 2008. With this historic opening, Portland will join the ranks of other US cities that have successfully used day labor centers as alternatives to street corner hiring. The center will give Portland's day laborers a safe and secure place to seek decent employment, and help in the fight to raise standards for all workers.

This years salsa party will be fun for everyone, and will include dance lessons, food and a silent auction.  You can help by spreading the word, and helping to sell tickets (contact me for more information or to purchase a ticket). We would love to see you as we celebrate this historic event! Even if you can't attend, please consider buying a ticket for someone who can't afford one.

If you would like to promote your organization or campaign, tables can be provided with advance notice.  This event will be a good opportunity to network with other organizations and get your message out.
Help spread the word and ensure the success of this event!
