This page will provide a record of what we have covered.
Our first session we covered quite a lot in a short time. I hope it
was not too overwhelming...

| On your writing: You have excellent range, depth, and logical argument. Clearly you are an intelligent man with an awareness and understanding which is both complex and has depth. The quality of your ideas is not an issue. Once we have a writing sample such as I described above, we can better measure your organizational and developmental skills regarding the communication of an idea. I am certain that you may understand the efficacy of having some discernable coherence which includes sufficient detail and evidence (connected by effective transitions) to deliver your message. Your writing is quite readable, up to a point. While your voice, tone, and a certain style are communicated... various technical weaknesses make your writing less clear than it might otherwise be. We can fix that. And we can remedy various stylistic techniques as well. Your English grammar needs some work. You need to study the rules of articles and master the art of using the English preposition. Pronouns are more difficult than you might imagine, and we can do a series of exercises to improve this set of skills. There must be agreement in your pronouns use, as well as recognizable antecedents. And we can find ways to help you become more consistent with regard to tense, person, and number (plurals). This will make your writing more comprehensible. Your punctuation is quite good, but you need to learn certain traditions and rules about hyphens and semi-colons. There are also certain aspects of your sentence structure which could be improved. Will see you next Saturday. best regards, Tim Post Script: If there are any words in these five paragraphs which you do not understand, please let me know and we can discuss their meaning, use, and pronunciation. |
