4th Monday Labor Radio...
brings a Jaime Partridge
and Peter Shapiro production dealing with how
working Americans use the power of strikes to
negotiate for justice.
This September is about the working people who
have built this nation and helped preserve our
traditional values: peace, freedom, liberty,
equity, safe working conditions, and justice for
working families.
We will explore critical issues raised in town
meetings, local papers, coffeehouses, pubs, and
on the radio. There is a vital, ongoing
conversation about the health and well-being of
our people and nation.
For too long our healthcare delivery system has
been hijacked by corporate transnational
insurance companies...
More and more working Americans are moving to
seize the freedom to organize unions,
cooperatives, and collectives.
These groups will help us realize
self-determination and achieve solidarity while
we make strides for universal healthcare,
education, and jobs with justice.
Stay tuned and get on board.
It's gonna be one hellofa ride!
We encourage our listeners to Call in and join the
conversation!

Radio Labor Collective welcome listeners
every Monday Night! "Good Evening, Welcome to Labor Radio, once the only program of its kind in
Oregon and Southwest Washington!" For the Working Class by the Working Class:
Here's one comment... "Labor
Radio," “Prison Pipeline,” "Veteran's Voices," and "Circle A Radio," four shows
that dare to get down on the ground and to air some spontaneous
voices"

Several local unions have
delayed, suspended, or withheld
under-writing until such time as
our full hour is restored.
More and more unions are
regretfully suspending their
commitments to the station until
this is resolved. If KBOO
intends to silence the voices of
workers in Oregon, they will be
hearing from more and more
working Americans, union
members, and our affiliates.
Encourage your union, in a
presentation at
their next executive council
meeting, to take action.
Union Activists, organizers, and
those concerned with social
justice should contact
Arthur Davis to urge that KBOO
restore the full hour to the
Labor Collective. They
can identify themselves as
unhappy listeners and should
contact their members and have
them do the same. We have
a pool of 270 thousand union
members whose voices are being
silenced by this arbitrary
decision, made behind what are
now closed doors, to restrict
working American families from
having access to the airwaves.
At a recent Program Committee Meeting, a
board member spoke about the
lack transparency and democracy
in decision-making processes at
the station and urged the
committee to stop making changes
until a clear goal was
identified. After his comments,
the board member was told he was
not welcome to make suggestions
during the meeting and he was
uninvited to the KBOO board
retreat on Feb 3rd because "this
was a private meeting."
The board member informed the
committee that closing the
meeting is unlawful and not in
line with KBOO policy.
At a subsequent meeting it was
agreed that this issue will be
revisited in March.
*For the past nine
years unions and working people have been able to share their views and
voices on KBOO. Union Leaders,
Legislators, Activists, Writers, Artists, and others have provided
insights and
engaged in conversations about issues and concerns. This show is the
only one of its kind in Washington
State, Oregon, and the Pacific Northwest. A virtual institution.
In the fall of 2008, members of the KBOO Labor Radio Collective were surprised
and disappointed to learn
our time had been arbitrarily cut in
half This means we now have only 2.17 hours per month to provide
more than a quarter million Union members in Oregon solid programming.
But we continue to supply
exciting guests,
critical information, and compelling interactions
with listeners.
Our union voice, one of the few evening shows on KBOO
which is fully-funded by underwriters,
was singularly targeted for cuts without due process, adequate inclusion, or reasonable
discussion.
There are few enough places where working Americans can go for critical
information and current
news. This unfortunate cut in air time for union voices sends a chilling
message to listeners.
Rather than dampen hopes, frustrate
aspirations, and destroy dreams...
KBOO Community Radio
should remain proactive in supporting unions,
solidarity, peace, freedom, and
justice.
This station must not abandon or shortchange
working people in this time of crisis. There is
too much at stake. Our listeners and neighbors deserve better.
A thought from a member of the KBOO RADIO COLLECTIVE...
“All that serves
labor serves the nation. All that harms is treason.
If a man tells you he trusts America, yet fears labor, he is a fool.
There is no America without labor, and to fleece the one is to rob
the
other.”
