Let us hope those who were fooled by the criminals at the helm
will one day recognize how cruelly they have been used. John Murtha
came to this point of realization. This man was an Eagle Scout, marine,
drill instructor, officer, college graduate, and volunteer in Vietnam, who
earned a Bronze star, two Purple hearts, and citations for gallantry.
Beyond this he is a dedicated and faithful husband, father, and public
servant. He opposes abortion but supports stem cell research. He
opposes NAFTA and CAFTA and is pro-Labor. He opposes both gun control
and attacks on gays. He finds the idea of torture un-American,
immoral, and depraved. His integrity cannot be questioned and his
candor is needed.
This thoughtful man supported the initiatives in Afghanistan, as did
most Americans. But now, he has seen that our efforts in Iraq are
misguided, ill-advised, poorly planned, abysmally executed, and
dangerous for our troops, this nation, and the globe.
Based on this experience and credentials, his considered and
well-informed opinion must not be taken lightly when he states:
"Continuing U.S. military action in Iraq is not in the best interests
of the United States of America, the people of Iraq, or the Persian
Gulf Region, which were cited in Public Law 107-243 as justification
for undertaking such action."
When the chickenhawks stoop to calling this man a coward, they reveal
their too-often base and shallow motives. I do not care if those who
were fooled by Bush and his band of thugs feel shame. I only hope they
feel compelled to deal with reality and do what is best for America.
We have traitors and betrayers in positions of power in America. It's
time to clean house and begin some damage control. Between those who
were installed in these positions through questionable elections, and
those who were never elected at all... we have too many people whose
interests and priorities contradict American interests. These
"tough-talking," sit-on-the-sidelines cheerleaders for betrayal, must
become accountable.
If it was honest error, they deserve immediate removal. If it
was intentional deceit, they deserve to be punished and made
to pay dearly for their behavior. And if they served their own
selfish-interests, or as pawns for transnational corporate ambitions,
with no thought for those who would suffer, these treasons cannot be
condoned. Too many American lives have been lost, too much goodwill
has been squandered, and the damage to our international reputation is
incalculable.
Those who continue to apologize for these cretins need to wake
up, get a clue, and begin to make amends for their own intransigence.
Abject denial is no longer an option. To be fooled once is no crime.
But to acquiesce in these treasons is beyond the pale. It is time to
face facts and do the right thing. With or without shame, tacit
surrender to inequity must not stand.
Too much is at stake and too many suffer for these crimes.
"The spread of evil is the symptom of a
vacuum. whenever evil wins, it is only by default: by the moral
failure of those who evade the fact that there can be no
compromise on basic principles."
Ayn Rand
