Dr.
Magnuson, author of the far-reaching and well-received book Mindful
Economics, will speak on the “Mindful Economics” movement—a
proactive, nonviolent movement based on economic re-localization with
emphasis on building democratic, stable, and ecologically sound
institutions – at 4:45pm.
In
addition to Dr. Magnuson’s speech, the two-year old Lane Peace Center
at Lane Community College, will present a full program of performances,
breakout sessions, and panels on various themes of peace and justice,
including climate change, social change, grassroots organizing and more
on both Friday, May 29 and Saturday, May 30.
The
idea for the Peace Center germinated in 2005, in response to the
heightened world crises of war, racism, poverty, and environmental
destruction. The college community gave the idea a positive
response.
The
conference costs are $45.00 for Friday-Saturday general admission, $30
for Friday only, $20 for Saturday only, $10 for students on Saturday and
free for students on Friday. The conference on Friday will be held at
The Center
forMeeting
& Learning on the Lane Community College Main Campus. On Saturday,
the conference will be held at Cozmic Pizza, 199
W 8th Ave; Eugene.

The Wordsmith Collection has a variety of resources for peace on a
number of servers. To facilitate the current renaissance in
writing, activism, and creative arts... we created these resources
to help grassroots efforts for peace, freedom, and justice in
America and around the globe.
Each one of us has a unique skill. We need cooks, writers,
organizers, leaders, speakers, painters, artists, teachers, students,
learners, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, neighbors, friends, and
nations to come together in seeking peace in our time. All of us,
together, can end poverty, improve schools, stop war, nurture peace, and
provide a foundation for peace, security, and global justice in our
time.
With the wealth and resources available on this planet there is no
reason the human family cannot feed the hungry, house the
homeless, teach the uneducated, heal the sick, and live up to the best
we find in ourselves. If you want to write, edit, advocate,
organize, or get active... contact

"The spread of evil is the symptom of a
vacuum. whenever evil wins, it is only by default: by the
moral failure of those who evade the fact that there can be
no compromise on basic principles."
