Responsible Democrats, Republicans, and Independents agree
on many ideas.
We agree this country is a wonderful place.
We understand that freedom and liberty
can only be sustained
when the rule of law counterbalances what can become the tyranny
of the state. Smaller and more efficient government is more
useful than the bloated,
corrupt, and nearly useless bureaucracy
it has become in the last seven years.
Government should serve
the people who create it, rather than the corporate elite and
others who buy influence.
Only misguided fools on the extreme right and left would
disagree with this common
ground and the common sense it
represents. Unfortunately, a band of extremists have
been in control
of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government.
We must build a larger tent and expose the thugs
who have perverted our national and
international priorities. When
proud
liberals join together with creative independents
and
responsible Republicans... we can finish taking back our country and restoring
the rule of law, fiscal restraint, and social responsibility. Public service
and civic commitment,
our traditional values, can be renewed.
We can reverse this downward spiral by reaching out to the disparate
elements
of a divided community. We can all get along.
In this coming
together we will become
more tolerant, inclusive, and effective.
The misguided experiment in starving social programs while ignoring
fiscal responsibility
has failed. We need to remove those who led
us down this sorry path and prosecute them
for their crimes. Then
we begin the rebuilding process-- redefining priorities and
restoring national, fiscal, and international security.
We must open up the bidding on the reconstruction of Iraq. As allies
and the Iraqi people
win contracts and jobs, international peace-keeping
forces will replace US troops so that
they no longer serve as targets.
As we bring our troops home we can rebuild America to
face the demands
of the globally-interconnected workplace. We need not lower standards
and wages to the most pitiful common denominator. We can restore
hope and trust
by
investing in America and insisting that all participants share both
the burdens and fruits
of this enterprise.
We must refuse to surrender to continuous war and a munitions and oil-based economic
model. Instead, we can move forward and reestablish credentials and credibility. This is
the richest
and most powerful country in the world. We can provide productive
and progressive
responses
to the thugs who refuse to change course.
Those who kneel at the mean extremes, need to stand up, move into the mainstream,
and
forget their selfish designs. Those in the middle
of the road
will either take a stand or get
run-over. But either way, change is
gonna' come. Let's take back America and do the right
thing.
If not now....... when?
Post Script:
It will be a source of pride when our nation once more can stand tall.
We can defeat these traitors, preserve peace for ourselves and others,
promote economic & social justice, protect human rights, conserve the
environment, alleviate human suffering, teach our children, and
co-operate with other peoples to realize these common goals.
America can be redeemed.
Our power and influence are due for restoration. Our reputation and
credibility can be repaired. These difficult tasks will be accomplished
when we recognize the efficacy of providing citizens with accurate
information and treating dissenting voices with respect. This will
require a return to traditional values.
In this period of reconciliation and reconstruction, we must control
spending, insist on the separation of church and state, and protect
civil liberties and personal privacy. These are not profound
transformations. We need only remember who we are and what we
stand for. And remembering... we must demand accountability.
