On Labor Voices:
It is union power which creates
middle-class benefits, provides a safety net for
the most powerless among us, and sustains long-term security.
Working together makes America stronger, healthier, and more vital.
The decline of labor, precipitated by an all-out war on
working people and the middle class, has ended up hurting
the prosperity of nonunion workers, lowering wages, and
driving up the costs of health care.
The preponderance of nonunion workers has lowered
wages, reduced benefits, and put our citizens health and security at
risk. Too many of our students, children, seniors, sick, disabled,
veterans, unemployed and underemployed have been victimized by this
situation.
It is time to band together, speak out, and remind our
families, friends, and neighbors that working Americans deserve a voice
in the workplace. We cannot be expected to invest our blood,
sweat, and tears without some firm civic-commitment from our employers
and government officials. We are in this together.

moral failure of those who evade the fact that there can be
no compromise on basic principles."
