Campus and Community are invited to attend two events at Washington State
University Vancouver on Apr 1 and Apr 3:

On Tuesday Apr 1, noon - 1:00, Michael Munk, author of The Portland Red
Guide, will speak about the city of Portland's heritage of social
dissent.  Using maps and numerous photos, Munk tells the stories of people
and organizations who fought against repression and injustice and shows the
sites of their activities left out of local placenames, memorials and
 monuments.

Munk was born in Prague in 1934 and escaped the Nazi occupation of
Czechoslovakia, fleeing with his family to the U.S. in 1939. He received a
PhD in politics from New York University after degrees from the University
of Oregon and Reed College. He taugh political science at
Rutgers University,Roosevelt University and Stony Brook University for
twenty-five years before retiring to Portland. Since then, his interests and
publications have focused on local radical history. In 2007, the Oregonian
listed him among Portland's "local literary luminaries." www.michaelmunk.com

The presentation is free and open to the public and will be held in WSUV
 Library Building room 201.

On Thursday April 3, noon - 1:00, singer/songwriter David Rovics will
perform in the WSUV Multimedia Building Room 6.  Called "...the Pete Seeger
of his time," Rovics will sing and discuss songs that have played a central
role in various American social movements, such as labor, civil, human, and
 women's rights struggles.

In folk musician tradition, since the mid-1990's Rovics has spent most of
his time on the road, playing hundreds of shows every year throughout North
America, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Japan. He and his songs
have been featured on national radio programs in the US, Canada, Britain,
Ireland, Italy, Sweden, Denmark and elsewhere. He has shared the stage
regularly with leading intellectuals, activists, politicians, musicians,
and celebrities, and performed at thousands of conferences, rallies,
college campuses and folk clubs throughout the world.
