"Community colleges play an important role in
helping people transition
between careers by providing the retooling they
need to take on a new career."
Barack Obama
We have an obligation and a responsibility
to be investing in our
students and our schools. We must make sure that
people who have the
grades, the desire and the will, but not the money, can
still get the best
education possible.

Author bio:
Jan Underwood teaches Spanish at
Portland Community College,
and when
she's not at work, writes and practices Tae Kwon Do.
She has lived in Canada, France and Mexico and now makes her home with
her daughter in
Portland. Day Shift Werewolf is her first novel.
Excerpt:
"Downtown, at the convention center, there's a gathering
of young Republicans.
That sounds pretty palatable. I find a doorway facing away
from the main
boulevard and wolf up. Then I go into the center from the
back and prowl
around for a while. On the fifth floor I find a sauna.
It looks like there's just one guy here, a gauzy brown shape in the
haze. Perfect. I slip in, slit his throat
with a steady claw and have a young
Republican for dinner.
